Club History

Chapeltown Athletic JFC and Social Club

The Club was founded in 1984  by Francis Butler and David Turner,.They founded the club on the motto Football is Fun, Win or Lose, Enjoy it, and to this day that that philisophy still applies.

We gained Charter Standard in 2003

Originally the club started with two teams in the Saturday league and moved to the Sunday league when established .

Now we have 8 teams currently playing in the Sheffield and District Sunday League.

Originally played at Concord and Ecclesfield and moved to Shardlows in 1992 – 1993. We now have  a contract at Ecclesfield Comprehensive School through Interserve and it is now our home ground for our sole use.

Our training is held at Ecclesfield Comprehensive in the summer and at St George's Park Thorncliffe and Concord during the winter.

We think that we are the only club who do not hold trials, and will accept any child no matter what their ability if they wish to play football.  We only refuse anybody when our teams are full and will then keep lists and contact them if and when a place is available.

We guarantee any player with us will play at least 10 half games a season and will never be left sat on the subs bench for the whole of a match.  By doing this we can try to develop all the players that come to us.

Due to our Ethos we are not always the most successful teams (but we like to think that our players are happy and enjoy their football)  We do have our moments  though having had teams that won titles and runners up on numerous occasions.

In the past we have had success stories with Andy Warrington – Goalkeeper for Rotherham and Steve Haslam former Sheffield Wednesday player. (Both are ex players).

At presentation nights all our players receive a tropphy and we have 5 awards for each team (Players player, Man of the Match, Managers Player, Clubman and Most Improved player)  We also have five major awards within our club (which players/ parents  can be nominated for by their managers)

Our sponsor this year can be found on the left hand side of the website.

The  club is run at present with an executive body of 5. If anyone is interested in joining the executive please get in touch. A variety of roles are availble.

All coaches are level 1 qualified and we also have a Level 2 coach  (we encourage our coaches, managers etc to develop by paying for courses through the club) and have a good network of referees to pull on for our home games.

We established girls teams in 2005. Although the last couple of years we haven't been able to form girls teams, we currently have girls playing within our teams.

We have always had a strong social side to our club. At present we hold various events throughout the year, Race Nights, Halloween and Easter parties, Dogs nights, Quiz nights, Bowling. A Sponsored Walk and Fun Day .

In the past the club has attended competitions abroad in Belgium etc, run trips to Football Grounds and to the Coast.

Each year we hold a Xmas Raffle when all proceeds are given to local children’s charities.  Football Clubs, sporting venues etc donate prizes. This year we have supported PACES school for Cognitive Learning and one of Interserves Charities, Weston Park Cancer Care.

We have now decided to try to form links within our community with Paces and will be giving half our money raised from the raffle to them each year. In the past we have given to Amy’s retreat, S35 Dyslexia Group, Bluebell Wood and the Children’s Hospital.   We feel as a club it is right to give something back to others less fortunate than ourselves.
